In the matters of faithfulness, there is none like our God. As we reflect on our past, it should not take us long to recount all his divine benefits that has blessed our lives. When we have been lost in caves of despair, it has been God who came as light to lead us out. When we have fallen in shaft of consequence, God is the lifeline that has drawn us out. David testifies, “He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure” (v2). The truth is this: In all things, God is the active agent of our deliverance. For this, we give Him glory. We praise and testify to his goodness for anyone who will listen (especially in the congregation of the saints). His mercy should stir a joy of the Lord in our hearts, for even David rejoices, “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put trust in the Lord” (v3). In this Psalm, David counts the ways of God’s faithfulness in his life:
- God keeps those who trust in him on the path of life.
- God’s love remains fixed on those who believe in him. David says of him, “You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts towards us; none can compare to you!” (v5).
What should be our response to Gods innumerable and wondrous acts of deliverance in our lives? By love, we commit our way to Him. By truth, we yield our lives to his will. By prayer, we ask of God to give us the desire to see, the ability to hear, and the power obey his word, for David testifies, “In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear” (v6). In thankfulness, we recognize that God provides for everything we need physically and spiritually to follow him (2 Pt 1:3). It is by his faithfulness alone that grace and mercy persist and prevails in our lives. For this we praise him! We can rejoice in our own hearts, “O Lord, I thank you that salvation is not dependent on me!” We can testify before the congregation, “The Lord is good, and his mercy endures for forever! I am the evidence of it!” Like David, we have a “new song” in our hearts that sings the hymn,
“Great is thou faithfulness, Great is thou faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies I see, All I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me”
Hallelujah! Praise him today for his love upon you.
Blessings,
